Kolobrzeg has relatively well founded harbour entrance in form of two long breakwaters. Between their heads sea waves get steep because of outflowing current and a strong crosscurrent depending on direction and force of the wind occurs there. There is over 6 meters ( ~ 20 ft ) depths in the entrance, 5.5 meters ( ~ 18 ft ) in main harbour and 3 meters ( ~ 9 ft ) is yacht harbour basin.Help in orientation and finding Kolobrzeg harbour is supplied by lighthouses Niechorze, Gaski and obviously Kolobrzeg itself.
Lighthouse Gaski is located 11.5 Nm, east of Kolobrzeg and lighthouse Niechorze 18 Nm of Kolobrzeg.
Lighthouse Gaski is located 11.5 Nm, east of Kolobrzeg and lighthouse Niechorze 18 Nm of Kolobrzeg.
Light characteristics of these three lighthouses are as follows:
Gaski Occ( 3 ) 15s Range 23.5 NmKolobrzeg Fl 3s Range 16.0 Nm
Niechorze Fl 10s Range 20.0 Nm
In the distance of 3.5 Nm from breakwaters heads there is a landfall buoy "KOL". It is a column buoy with spherical top mark, vertical white/red stripes and light Fl 10s range 5.5 Nm. Direction from that buoy to harbour is 148o approaching an elewator bulding until the light tower on head of E breakwater ( Occ 4s ) is in line with the monument. There turn left to direction 122 o leading into the middle of harbour entrance. Approaching entrance remember about crosscurrent which depends on winds direction force and maintain maximum manoeouvrability in order to avoid drifting onto one of the breakwaters. During eastern winds there is coastal current heading west and western winds cause eastern current. Entrance width is 47 meters ( 154 ft ) at the head of W breakwater and as you proceed it is getting narrower reaching 24 meters ( 70 ft ) just before the port control building ("Bosmanat"). Space in that sector provides an opportunity for expected lowering of the sails.
